The .org site for Gyre Sticker is where we describe what we do with the proceeds from sales at Gyre Sticker.com. We also accept donations, 100% of which are distributed to our cause-based organizations.

"How does it work?"
1) You buy the stickers at GyreSticker.com.
2) Zazzle prints stickers. Zazzle sends stickers to you. You put stickers on map. You educate about ocean pollution. Please visit Guerilla Green for gyre-specific resources for in-class teaching.
3) Commissions are sent from Zazzle to Gyre Sticker.
4) Checks are cut to nonprofits doing work to fix the problem.

"How about an example...?"
The Illinois department of education purchases 1,160 sheets of 20 stickers, ttaling $4,002. These are distributed into 23,200 classrooms. This reaches 696,000 students (figuring 30 students per classroom) in year 1, alone for only $4,002. An additional 696,000 students are educated by the same stickers in year 2 at ZERO additional cost*.

Algalita Foundation, Oceana, 1% For The Planet and Debian, whose open source logo is used for the project to represent the Gyre itself, in turn, each receive checks accounting for 50% of revenues generated ($50.00 each).

In this case, Gyre Sticker cuts one check for $50 each to Algalita Foundation, Oceana, 1%FTP, and Debian.

*This is really cool.

"Are you making money on this?!"

Yes. A grand total of $1.88 in commission balance is sitting in the account as of January 2010.

We want to be very transparent about this. Less than $10 in commissions has accumulated at Zazzle to date. We hope to make back the money we need to expand the influence of the project, pay for stickers to give to schools for free, and buy lunch every now and then (Blue Ocean Seafood Guide friendly, of course :-)

50% of the revenues will be retained by Gyre Sticker founder, the beneficent Green Guerilla. Since the margins are so narrow, we are separately raising funds for direct action; $50 does not go a long way toward cleaning up over 1.4M km^2 of ocean.
